Mumbai Indians win high-scoring encounter
Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets in the 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Wednesday.
Put into bat first, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a formidable total of 201/3, thanks to a brilliant century from Devdutt Padikkal (101 off 52 balls) and a quickfire 56 from AB de Villiers.
In reply, Mumbai Indians chased down the target with two balls to spare, thanks to a 99-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav (79 off 43 balls) and Ishan Kishan (43 off 32 balls).
With this win, Mumbai Indians moved to the top of the IPL standings with 18 points from 13 matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, remained in third place with 14 points from 13 matches.
The match was played in front of a limited crowd at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. It was the first IPL match to be played in front of fans since the tournament was moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
